Nose - immediate hits of soft leather. Strong and prominent. Light notes of dust and tobacco. I can already tell this is going to be something special. A few minutes into opening up, a light sugary note accompanied by a deep plum note. Undertones of vanilla. Gotta say, this one is checking off all the boxes here for me.
Palate - this blend has so much balance. The palate is extremely consistent. The nose does not betray the palate at all! Its leathery, and tobacco. The sugar and dark berry notes hit like a truck. Every one of these notes just carry and dance all the way across the palate. The charry barrel notes are in there but for a 12 year Bourbon, it's wonderfully light and does an incredible job of not being an overpowering note. That being said, this drinks older than the age statement. The proof point and age work so damned well together.
Finish - vanilla and berry. I would never have thought the char or tannin wouldn't be a forefront note but it's non-existant. It takes forever for a char note to hit - which it eventually gets there but wow. It comes across as more leather than char. After a good long finish, the char combines with the other flavors and gives a faint cherry cola note that really does a wonderful job of bowing as the curtain closes.
